Art Journals
Art journals are tools for creating meaning.Art journaling is the practice of keeping a sketchbook as a research tool.

Every project will have related art journal assignments. The assignments require you to work as an artist researcher. Your commitment, effort, and creativity are all required.
Tips for success:
1. Become a collector.
2. Prep pages ahead of time. Need a break, prep a page. Painting too wet, prep a page.
3. Develop a personal style or process toward developing a page.
4. Put the due dates in your agenda!
5. Take your AJ home and work, class time is not enough time.
Unit 1: Rhythmic Patterns, Repetition & Unity
Narrative figures and Non- Objective Design
Project 1-Moving Figures
The students will develop narratives using repeating moving silhouettes over a rhythmically activated negative space collage.

Unit 2: 3D Design, Patterns, Space, Emphasis
Functional Ceramics, Soft Sculpture
Spirit Animal Slab Box
Students will develop a system of personally meaningful symbols to design a ceramic box. The box will use animals as a point of emphasis for meaning making while building a box which is structurally sound and exemplifies high levels of craftsmanship.
